BOYS SPSL/WCC CROSS COUNTRY: Enumclaw, White River advance to WCD, BL sends two

Enumclaw and White River advanced to the West Central District III Class 3A cross country meet after placing fourth and sixth, respectively, Bonney Lake sending two runners.

Enumclaw and White River advanced to the West Central District III Class 3A cross country meet after placing fourth and sixth, respectively, at the South Puget Sound League/Western Cascade Conference 3A subdistrict meet Saturday at Fort Steilacoom in Lakewood.

Enumclaw finished tied with Auburn Mountainview with 126 points and White River collected 139 points. Peninsula, which had five runners finish in the top seven spots, took first with 21 points. Bonney Lake finished seventh overall, while Sumner was ninth.

There were 82 runners competing with the top six teams and 30 runners advancing to district.

The boys race was delayed for an hour after several nests of bees were discovered during the girls race. Park personnel sprayed chemicals on the nest before the boys race.

Senior Braden Timpe led the Enumclaw runners with a ninth-place finish in 16 minutes, 45.3 seconds on the 3.1-mile course.

Junior Larry Calvert finished 18th in 17:08.7 and senior Ryan Weller was 26th, 17:26.9.

Joining the trio at districts are senior Abe Kellogg, 33rd, 17:44.2, sophomore Cory Johnson, 40th, 18:00.8, senior Brandon Shook, 18:35.3, and sophomore John Williams, 61st, 18:41.9.

Sophomore Marcus Dickson finished eighth for White River with a time of 16:43.6 and teammate Kody Gould was not far behind in 12th place at 16:56.7. White River runners moving on to district are senior Sterling Frye ,27th, 17:28.5, senior Shane Coyle, 30th, 17:34.8, freshman Chris Fisher, 62nd, 18:42.3, senior Tanner Wate, 65th, 19:08., and junior Austin Shirley, 66th, 19:17.3.

Bonney Lake senior Brandon Baumchen and junior Reed Hawkins also advanced to state. Baumchen was 11th at 16:52.6 and Hawkins took 16th at 17:06. Sumner sophomore Reid Selmer just missed reaching district. He finished 31st with a time of 17:36.3.
