CROSS COUNTRY: Bonney Lake’s Stinnett races to 10th place

Bonney Lake’s Veronica Stinnett closed out her high school career with a 10th-place finish at Saturday’s Class 3A state girls cross county state championship meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Bonney Lake’s Veronica Stinnett closed out her high school career with a 10th-place finish at Saturday’s Class 3A state girls cross county state championship meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Stinnett completed the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 56 seconds – 48 seconds behind first-place finisher Amy-Elroise Neale of Glacier Peak. She improved on her 28th-place finish at the 2008 state meet.

Sumner senior Ashlee Sincraugh was 42nd at 20:08 and teammate Stefani Castile finished 57th at 20:30 among the 138 female runners. White River sophomore Lauryn Wate was 85th at 20:59.

In the team standings, the Enumclaw girls finished 15th with 305 points. Shadle Park of Spokane, Glacier Peak and North Kitsap finished first, second and third, respectively.

Enumclaw’s top finisher was senior Carissa Gwerder who placed 48th in 20:22, while junior Emily Eilertson was 78th at 20:51.

Other Hornet runners completing the race were junior Julie Harris, 110th, 21:46; sophomore Sierra Myers, 131st, 22:56; and sophomore Lauren Cary, 136th, 23:43.

In the boys 3A championship meet, White River finished 15th overall with 377 points, while North Central of Spokane cruised to the title with 47 points.

Sophomore Marcus Dickson, White River’s top finisher, improved 70 spots from his 2008 performance with a 38th-place finish at 16:44.

Other White River runners finishing the race were Kody Gould, 79th, 17:08; Sterling Frye, 116th, 17:41; Shane Coyle, 125th, 17:54; Brandon Davis, 137th, 18:46; Tanner Wate, 138th, 19:02; and Chris Fisher, 142nd, 19:50.

Bonney Lake senior Brandon Baumchen was 74th at 17:04, while Enumclaw’s Larry Calvert, a junior, was 120th at 17:44 and senior Ryan Weller was 127th at 17:57.
