Edwards cruises to 1,600- and 3,200-meter wins

Bonney Lake High’s Theresa Edwards won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs as the Panthers defeated Peninsula 74-66 and lost to Enumclaw 80-70 in a three-team South Puget Sound League 3A meet Thursday on their home track.

Edwards won the 1,600 in 5 minutes and 28.97 seconds and the 3,200 in 11 minutes and 34.36 seconds.

The Panthers also took first in the 4×400 relay in 4 minutes, 13.26 seconds, eight seconds ahead of Enumclaw.

In the field events, Tara Kilmer won the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 9 inches.

The Bonney Lake boys won both relay events, then won the 400 and 1,600-meter runs in Thursday’s meet with Peninsula and Enumclaw. They lost to Enumclaw 76-68 and 78-67 to Peninsula.

Hunter Colegrove, Eric Schroeder, Brandon Barnett and Steve Brown posted a time of 45.07 to win the 400-meter relay – a fraction of as second ahead of Enumclaw.

Schroeder, Brandon Baumchen, Cale Snider and Chris Pokorny were two seconds faster than Enumclaw to win the 1,600-meter relay in 3:26.74.

Snider captured first in the 400 in 50.70 with Pokony second at 50.74. Baumchen took first in the 1,600 in 4:35.33.

In the pole vault, the Panthers won with Sean M. Smith’s mark of 10-6. Bonney Lake captured the top four places in the event.

Bonney Lake closes out the regular track season Thursday at Sumner.
