EHS BOYS TENNIS: Rain dampens tennis tournament

When it rains it pours – and when it pours, tennis players like those at Enumclaw High have to wait.

The EHS boys tennis team’s league and subdistrict tournament set for Oct. 13, Thursday and Saturday was put on hold with plans to finish up Monday and Tuesday. Results were too late to print here, but can be found at www.courierherald.com.

Enumclaw closed out the regular season with a 4-1 win over White River Oct. 12.

Dan Milat topped Chris Thompson 6-2, 6-0. Jeremy and Tyler McCarthy won 6-4, 6-0 and Matt Zender and Justin Williams won 6-2, 6-0. Levi Goodin and Kevin Johnson won 6-2, 6-0.

For the Hornets it was as close as they’ve come to winning a league championship since the teams were coed in the 1980s. The Hornets lost one match, to Lakes, which captured the crown.

Coach Adam Ihde said he’s proud of his team. He said he didn’t have any superstars, but the Hornets’ depth as a team was the determining factor for its success.

“Enumclaw consistently won matches at second singles and second and third doubles,” Ihde said. “The first doubles and singles did well also, but it was our depth that put us (near) the top of the league this year.”
