A pair of South Puget Sound League 3A victories kept the Enumclaw High girls tennis team at the top of the league with a perfect record.

The Hornets close out the season at 3:30 p.m. Friday at home against White River. They were scheduled to make up Friday’s canceled contest with Lakes Monday and play Peninsula Tuesday. Results of those contests were too late to make this issue.

Coach Rick Carel will attend Thursday night’s seeding meeting in preparation for Monday and Tuesday’s league tournament at Clover Park.

The Hornets topped Franklin Pierce 4-1 April 27, with those who won doing so in straight sets.

It was another dominating performance against Clover Park April 29 as EHS won 5-0.

“We did the unbelieveable again,” Carel said. “We didn’t drop a game, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. I’ve never had a team that did that before now and this team has done it twice. It just goes to show the consistency of this team.”

Carel said the key to the Hornets’ success is the team’s focus.

“They’re all willing to listen and learn and they’re getting better and better,” he said. “They’re good kids, who are working hard.”
