Olivia Bannerot won the all-around title Saturday and Maddison Ward was second as the Enumclaw High gymnastics team defended its subdistrict championship.

Next, the EHS crew will look to repeat as district champion. The district meet is Saturday at Mount Rainier High School and will determine the teams and individual gymnasts who will earn a berth in the following weekend’s state Class 2A/3A meet at the Tacoma Dome.

Enumclaw fans will remember last year’s state meet, where the first-year  Hornet program fell just a half-point shy of a state title.

Saturday’s subdistrict meet saw the Hornets post a team total of 172.725 points. Auburn Mountainview was second with 160.525 and will join EHS as a full-team entry to the district meet.

Individually, Bannerot took Saturday’s all-around title with a combined score of 36.9. She was first in the vault, 9.5, bars, 8.75, and floor exercise, 9.75, while tying for third on the beam, 8.9.

Ward’s second-place performance in the all-around was based on a first-place finish on the beam, 9.4, and second-place efforts in both the bars, 7.95, and floor exercise, 9.5.

Additionally, Enumclaw was boosted by a third-place finish in the vault by Molly Mattheis, 9.0, a third-place showing in the bars by Michelle McKinlay, 7.4, and a tie for third on the beam by Emily Berte, 8.9.
