EHS Hornets wrestle in Pac Coast tourney

The Enumclaw athletes tied for 48th place.

Members of the Enumclaw High boys’ wrestling program spent part of their winter break competing at the prestigious, two-day Pac Coast tournament.

The Dec. 21-22 event showed 74 teams figuring in the final standings, all battling for glory at the Clark County Events Center in Ridgefield. The EHS crew landed in a tie for 48th place.

Thirteen wrestlers took part for the Enumclaw team that featured plenty of youth (eight freshmen in the bunch). The following are Hornets who won at least one match at Pac Coast.

• Cole Schumacher, 150 pounds: won three of five matches, two by fall and another by an 18-4 decision.

• Wyatt Gibson, 165 pounds: won his first two matches, one by fall and one by decision, then dropped two of his next three.

• Isaiah George, 285 pounds: Wrestling five matches, registered three pins during the tournament; also lost twice by fall.

• Romeo Gwerder, 132 pounds: opened the tourney with two victories (one major decision and one 11-9 decision) then lost twice by fall.

• Devlyn Bradshaw, 113 pounds: won first two matches (one fall, one decision) then one of his final three.

• William Sawicki, 126 pounds: three matches were decided by fall, including a victory in the first round of the consolation bracket.

• Baylor Thompson, 120 pounds: opened the tourney with a pin then dropped his next two, both by fall.

• Solomon Morales, 132 pounds: pinned his opponent in a consolation match and lost twice by fall.

• Caleb Massey, 106 pounds: won one of three matches, all decided by fall.

• Conner Henry, 106 pounds: pinned his first opponent then lost by major decision and a fall.
