EHS sophomore Levesh honored as Athlete of the Week

She recently took wins in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke against Clover Park.

Enumclaw High swimmer Alexandra Levesh had quite a two-meet run of success, racing to individual victories while also helping the Hornet relay teams win their events.

For her efforts, the EHS sophomore earned a statewide Athlete of the Week award through a program run by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

Each week, the WIAA and sponsor Gesa Credit Union recognize athletes from schools of all sizes for their accomplishments. Levesh was part of a group that saw nominations close the morning of Oct. 24.

Her impressive week included winning performances in both the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke during a meet against Clover Park; she also swam a leg on the school’s winning 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Two days later, against Fife, she won both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly, posting state-qualifying times in each race. She also contributed to the team’s winning performance in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay.

Aside from the state times, Levesh also qualified in two events for the upcoming district meet.

Each of the Athlete of the Week winners receives a letter of recognition from the WIAA executive director; a certificate of achievement; a $25 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods (courtesy of GESA); and the statewide bragging rights that accompany the achievement.

News of Levesh and her fellow winners was announced Oct. 26 on the WIAA website, WIAA Live mobile app, and on social media.
