EHS SWIM AND DIVE: EHS splashes to second-place at league meet

Enumclaw High’s boys swim and dive team sprinted to a second-place finish behind Peninsula Saturday at the SPSL 3A/2A championships at Lakes High.

Hornets with previous district-qualifying times and those who earned them Saturday will compete Friday and Saturday in the District 3 meet at Hazen High in Renton. Preliminary swim races begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday with diving scheduled to follow. Finals are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday. Peninsula won the league meet with 571 points. EHS finished with 434. Lakes was third with 370.

EHS kicked off the finals with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Thomas Petersen, Bennon VanHoof, Gabe Sales and Will Cooper won with a state-qualifying time of 1 minute, 44.88 seconds. The relay posted a state-qualifying time earlier in the season.

Jesse Skipworth, who qualified for the state meet earlier and set a school record, won the league championship with 337.60 points.

Cooper won the 100 butterfly in 57.24 and the 500 freestyle in 5:11.57.

Petersen, who also previously posted a state-qualifying time, won the 100 backstroke in 58.28.

VanHoof, also a state qualifier, won the 100 breaststroke, in 1:00.73.
