After three weeks of high school football, the Plateau teams have developed much in common. Both are posting points in abundance and boasting defenses that prove to be mighty stingy.
How do the numbers look? Enumclaw has hit the 70-point mark the past two weeks and has outscored its three opponents 175-14. White River has scored 48 points the past two weeks and holds a 137-19 advantage in three games.
Impressive numbers are great but the end result is the most important thing: both are 3-0 and sitting stop the North Puget Sound League 3A.
The latest goal for both Enumclaw High and White River is to secure victory No. 4. EHS will look for another win with another Thursday game, traveling to Federal Way Memorial Field September 25 to challenge Federal Way High (2-0 in league, 2-1 overall). White River will be on the same turf the following night, September 26, challenging the Todd Beamer Titans (0-3 league and overall).
Here’s a look at how each Plateau team kept its record clean last week, improving to 3-0.
ENUMCLAW
For the second week in a row Enumclaw High brought the “running clock” rule into play, mercifully hastening the end of a lopsided affair.
After scoring 75 points against Todd Beamer High the Hornets put a 70-0 whipping on the Kentlake Falcons. The Sept. 18 game took place at the Enumclaw Expo Center.
Enumclaw’s defense made the outcome certain, limiting Kentlake to negative yards on the ground and just 52 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, EHS simply could not be stopped. In the first quarter alone Cole Chiechi scored on a 12-yard run and quarterback Gavin Trachte tossed a 57-yard TD pass to Kage Kuro and a 28-yarder to Kolt Kuzaro. The second quarter saw Chiechi rushing for two more scores and Hunter Brown adding another.
The second half was a bit quieter with just four EHS touchdowns: passes from Trachte to Jordan Quiones and Kannon Kuzaro and rushes by Mason Ford and Donovor Lantigua. For the game, kicker Brodix John was a perfect 10-for-10 on extra-point attempts.
Enumclaw finished with a whopping 460 yards of offense, 246 on the ground and 214 through the air.
WHITE RIVER
The Buckley bunch wasted little time establishing dominance over an outgunned crew from Auburn Riverside. Playing Friday night in downtown Auburn’s Memorial Stadium, White River found the end zone early and often, racing to a 41-3 halftime lead.
The game featured a highlight-reel performance by Ray Palmer who returned two Riverside punts for touchdowns and finished with more than 200 all-purpose yards. His returns included a 46-yard effort in the second quarter and an 86-yard gallop in the third.
Quarterback Chaz Strickland put together another outstanding performance, completing 13 of 15 pass attempts that included four TD strikes. Two of his scoring tosses went to Parker Fry with others to Landen Kelley and Chaz Blackie. The other Hornet touchdown came on a one-yard burst by Mason Locke.
