Heavy with experience, it’s hard not to expect the Enumclaw High boys golf team to do well this season.

The Hornets return three golfers from May’s fifth-place state team – seniors Jake Erickson, who finished the first round of state competition as the leader, Jordan Beals, two-time South Puget Sound League 3A Player of the Year, and sophomore Tyler Salsbury, who recently was third at the summer’s prestigious Hogan Cup in Portland, Ore., and tied for first in his division at the Washington Junior Golf Association’s state tournament.

The threesome have been golfing all summer. Couple that with returing letterwinners Kurt Kindsvater, Tim Livermore, Kyle McCormack and Michael Lucarelli and things heat up. Toss in senior Grant Hathaway, sophomores Colton McCluskey, David Smith and Chase Dolliver, juniors Ryan McGrath, Dylan Kleist and Preston Keeter and freshmen Junior Condon, Jonathan Jokela and Beau Brock and the outlook just keeps getting brighter.

“We should be pretty good,” coach Bob Kilmer said. “These kids have worked hard all summer doing the things they need to do to get better. We’re excited.

“I think we have some of the best players in the state of Washington. We’ll see where we are in the end. If the first few days of practice are any indication, we’re working hard and playing well.”

The schedule had not been set in stone by press deadline, but the Hornets were scheduled to head to Jade Greens Golf Course today, Wednesday, to play in a jamboree with Tahoma and, barring a teacher’s strike, Kentlake. The team then heads home to the Enumclaw Golf Course Friday to host Kentlake.
