Lake Tapps’ Sean Packer and Enumclaw’s Tyler Salsbury finished six strokes behind the leaders Sunday at the 28th annual Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Public Links Championships, conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association at The Links at Moses Pointe in Moses Lake.

The title came down to a duel between first round leaders Stephen Hartnett of Boise, Idaho, and Evan Needham of Bellingham, Wash. Needham entered the 18th hole with a two-stroke lead but made a costly bogey while Hartnett made his seventh birdie of the day to tie for the lead at 7-under par 137. Riding the momentum, Hartnett calmly sank a 3-foot par putt on the first playoff hole to seal the victory.

Packer and Salsbury, an Enumclaw High senior, finished with an even-par first round performance and 1-under for Round 2 for identical 143 totals.

The Amateur Public Links Championship is open to amateur and senior amateur golfers who are members in good standing of a PNGA member public golf course only, including semi-private and military courses, and have been a bona fide public course player since Jan. 1, 2011, and meet the handicap requirements.
