Enumclaw rep’d at state gymnastics meet

A pair of Enumclaw High School gymnasts, Julia Carter and Brooke Faul, joined a field of more than 250 competitors for last week’s state championship meet.

Staged at Sammamish High School, the event had athletes (including the EHS duo) competing in a combined 1A/2A/3A field on Friday, Feb. 25; gymnasts from the larger 4A schools displayed their skills the following day.

Carter, a sophomore, and Faul, a senior, had advanced through district competition to represent EHS in Sammamish. Both Hornets had qualified in the vault and uneven bars while Carter had also earned a state berth in the floor exercise.

Carter had her top showing in the vault, scoring 9.45 to place third in a field of 97 competitors. She posted another Top 10 finish in the floor exercise, landing in a tie for eighth place with another score of 9.45, and was 33rd on the bars (7.825).

Faul posted an 8.375 to tie for 17th on the bars and, in the vault, received a mark of 8.55 from the judges to tie for 24th place.
