Five straight victories kept the Enumclaw High girls tennis team undefeated for the season. With the South Puget Sound League 3A season winding down, the Hornets are hoping to sew up another league championship before heading into postseason.

EHS’s big win came April 21 as it beat Sumner 3-2.

“Somebody always steps up and gets a win for us when we need it and that was Amanda Oster,” coach Rick Carel said.

Oster, playing No. 2 singles, topped the Spartans’ Julia Charuhas 6-1, 6-1.

Enumclaw’s No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Redman and Anna Nelson fought hard for their win against a tough doubles team of Emily Taylor and Reanne Charuhas. The Hornet pair lost the first set 6-4, but rallied to win a second-set tiebreaker and then the third set, 6-1.

Redman and Nelson made it look easier April 22, cruising past the same Sumner doubles team, 6-3, 6-1 as the Hornets beat the Spartans again 3-2. Only the first match counted on the two team’s SPSL 3A record.

The Hornets also finished their match with Peninsula April 20, winning 4-1.

Enumclaw never lost a game in a 5-0 nonleague win over Timberline Thursday.

“I’ve never had a team do that,” Carel said of the feat.

The Hornets also pulled out a 3-2 nonleague win over North Thurston Friday.

Enumclaw, 9-0 for the season, was scheduled to play Franklin Pierce Monday, results came too late to be printed here, and travel to Clover Park today, Wednesday, and then host Lakes Friday.
