Enumclaw Thunder brings home soccer gold

Enumclaw’s Special Olympics team hasn’t been letting the grass grow under its feet. The junior team recently brought home a gold medal from the state spring soccer championships.

Enumclaw’s Special Olympics team hasn’t been letting the grass grow under its feet. The junior team recently brought home a gold medal from the state spring soccer championships.

Enumclaw Thunder’s gold medal winners in the state Junior Division were: Colton Cormier, Michail Keating, Kyle Kennedy, Rockie Cormier, Anna Hertzog, Naveed Huziq, Kaylie Sines, Spencer Cline, Joseph Landon, Sam Keating and Jack Hanson. The team is coached by Sharon Cormier and assistants Mustafa Haziq, Tyler Cormier, Dani Cormier and Rebecca Anderson.

The Enumclaw Titans also captured a bronze medal in the Junior Unified Division

Junior unified athletes were: Mercedes Lampry, DJ Hertzog, Nadia Hertzog, Jackson DePoppe and Brandon Cormier; and athletes Jillian DePoppe, Aidan Lamprey, Wyatt Martin, Danny Martin and Phoenix Gilbert.

The unified team is coached by Doug Munger and Aaron Meyers with assistant Elmira Sines and peer mentor assistant Meranda Dedrick.

Isaiah Weaver earned a gold medal for skills athletes. Titan skills teammate Raven Gonzales was fourth at the state tournament.

Skills athletes Jonathan Smart and Sari Keating were silver medalist at the regional tournament.

Danielle Landon, Casey Bruner and Daisy LoPez also competed at the skills level.

The skills team is coached by Chris DePoppe with assistants Amy French, Kelly French, Amanda Keating, Scott Newman and Melanie Johnson.

The athletes were also participants in Monday’s Fourth of July parade and are currently participating in summer T-ball and bowling in anticipation for this fall’s competition.
