“The racing is right in front of you, in your face,” Bonney Lake-based promotor Mickey Fay said. Fay’s business, NW Extreme Flattrack Racing, formerly Mickey Fay Presents, Clem’s Enumclaw Powersports and Corliss Resources are bringing Puyallup’s popular racing circuit to Enumclaw for a trial run.

The dirt is set to fly Oct. 18.

“It’s the oldest form of motorcycle racing,” Fay said. “Motocross in the Northwest has been pretty big, but the tracks are gone.”

A successful showing, both racers and spectators, could bring the event to the Plateau on a more permanent basis, perhaps a couple of one-day events a month between March and June, Fay said.

For the past five years, Fay has been organizing a nine-race flattrack racing series from October through February at the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup.

The Puyallup series draws about 220 racers and between 800 and 1,200 spectators, Fay said. The Enumclaw oval, smaller in size, is expected to be a smaller draw, bringing in about 150 riders, but the competition, Fay said, should be good.

Riders range in age from 4 to adult, riding the tiny 50cc bikes to the powerful 600cc models.

The Expo Center competition will include two professional classes – one motorcycle, one quad – both with a purse. Fay said the professional classes are expected to race eight-lap heats with 12-lap main events. The amateur competition will likely run six-lap heats with eight-lap mains.

Rider registration is that morning. The gates will open at 8 a.m. with practice scheduled to start at 11. Racing begins at 1 p.m. General admission is $10. Children 6 years old and younger are free. For information visit www.mickeyfaysraces.com.
