Enumclaw’s Ki Haku Judo Club crowned four champions Saturday at the Washington State Championships at Kentlake High School. The open tournament involves players of all ages and from all over the state.

According to Ki Haku Judo Club Coach Mike Nepper, every athlete the team brought to the tournament placed.

In his first tournament, Logan Thomas captured the 7- to 8-year-old title in the 76- to 90-pound division.

Gavin Severson took first among 13- to 14-year-olds in the 116- to 134-pound weight class.

A.J. Petrenchak took second at 15- to 16-year olds at 124 to 132 pounds.

Jade Paterson fought in two divisions. She won the girls 13- to 14-year-old, more than 140 pounds classification. She also moved up to the seniors novice division at 171 pounds and over and earned a first-place medal.

Her older sister, Jennifer Paterson, also was a winner, taking first in the Brown/Black Belt Division at 171 pounds and heavier.

Team member Samantha Wanzer finished second in the Brown/Black Belt open division.

Nepper said these athletes and others compete year-round at local, state, high school, open and national tournaments. They work out at Enumclaw High School every Monday and Wednesday evening. Ki Haku Judo Club is part of the Enumclaw Parks and Recreation Programs.
