GIRLS SOCCER: State-ranked Bonney Lake claims SPSL title with 3-1 win over Sumner

Panthers claimed the South Puget League Sound 3A championship Oct. 29 with a 3-1 win over district-rival Sumner at Panther Field.

The Bonney Lake Panthers claimed the South Puget League Sound 3A championship Oct. 29 with a 3-1 win over district-rival Sumner at Panther Field.

Bonney Lake finished the season 7-0-1 in league play and 12-1-2 overall. It was the first girls soccer league championship in school history.

Savanna Moorehouse scored off a Jenny Dewitz assist for a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute of play.

Ten minutes later, Brianna Jones made it 2-0 on a Haylie Cannon assist.

Sumner cut the lead in half in the 25th minute on Kaylie Halloway’s goal.

Dewitz recorded her second assist of the night as Beverly Kobe hit a goal in the 65th minute of play.

The Panthers will play Kennedy Catholic, the Seamount League champs, in subdistrict action at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at Sunset Chev Stadium.

The winner will be the SPSL/Seamount No. 1 seed in the West Central District tournament, while the loser is the No. 2 seed.

Sumner, the SPSL No. 4 team, faces Seamount No. 4 Hazen at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at Renton Stadium

Winner to West Central District as the SPSL/Seamount No. 7 seed, loser is SPSL/Seamount No. 8.

The West Central District tournament is Nov. 7 at various locations.
