Guinevere’s Finale caught Citizen Kitty in the final strides for a three-quarter-length victory Sunday in the $21,000 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for older fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

Guinevere’s Finale caught Citizen Kitty in the final strides for a three-quarter-length victory Sunday in the $21,000 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for older fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

Rallying from far back, Guinevere’s Finale ran 6 ½ furlongs in 1:15.93 and paid $4.60, $3.40 and $2.60. Rocco Bowen rode the winner for trainer David Martinez and owner/breeder Oak Crest Farm LLC.

Citizen Kitty, ridden by Juan Gutierrez, opened a three-length lead in mid-stretch, but was unable to hold off Guinevere’s Finale late. Citizen Kitty paid $4.40 and $3.40.

Sunpenny, with Francisco Duran riding, finished well for third and paid $4.20 to show. Caliente Gold and Imakittensjoy completed the order of finish.

Guinevere’s Finale was in fifth place early, about eight lengths off the pace, as Citizen Kitty led through fractions of :22.75, :44.88 and 1:09.44. Angled outside into the lane, Guinevere’s Finale responded to Bowen’s urging and closed with a rush to tag Citizen Kitty in the final yards.

Guinevere’s Finale is 3-1-2 in 10 starts with earnings of $65,333 including $11,550 for Sunday’s victory. A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred by Tale of the Cat, Guinevere’s Finale is the last foal out of 1998 Washington Horse of the Year Guinevere, a triple stakes winner at Emerald Downs.

Oak Crest Farm is on a roll, winning with its last starters at Emerald Downs—2-year-old fillies Cape Grace and Trinni onAugust 1 and 9, and Guinevere’s Finale.

 

BH LISAS BOY SETS RECORD IN QUARTYER HORSE TRIAL

Idaho-bred Bh Lisas Boy ($4.80) broke the 440-yard track record in Sunday’s first trial for the $60,000 Bank of America Emerald Downs Quarter Horse Championship Challenge on Sunday, September 6.

A 3-year-old Mighty Invictus gelding, Bh Lisas Boy was timed in :21.492, breaking the mark of :21.740 set by Chicks Special Angel in last year’s B of A final. Ironically, Chicks Special Angel broke her own track record, running 440 yards in :21.583, while finishing second to Bh Lisas Boy in Sunday’s first trial. A stakes winner at Portland Meadows and Les Bois Park, Bh Lisas Boy, is 7-for-11 lifetime, while Chicks Special Angel is 16-for-26.

Flyin Lion ($7.80) prevailed in the second trial, running 440 yards in :21.712, and is third fastest qualifier for the Final Also qualifying are: Alota Action, :21.762; Cascade Dynamite,:21.764; Bellingham, :21.852; Time for Jesse Lee, :21.862; Snowbound Superchick, :21.937; Patty Okey, :22.191, and Larryville, :22.239.

 

 

NOTES: Debbie Hoonan scored her first Emerald Downs win in nearly two years Sunday, riding Mister Breeze ($8.60) to a three-quarter-length victory in Sunday’s third race for trainer Alan Bozell. Hoonan, who missed all of 2014 after undergoing shoulder surgery, is No. 9 all-time with 437 wins at Emerald Downs. . .The sixth race superfecta paid $9,726.80, second largest of the season. In the sixth, Miners Thunder ($41.60) rallied from last for the victory while Sam Jam finished second at 40-1. . .There were two other big upsets Sunday: Rhythm in May connecting at 18-1 in race seven and One Smart Girl at 25-1 in race eight. . .The latter two results helped create a Pick 5 carryover of $6,445 toFriday’s card. Leslie Mawing rode two winners including the gate-to-wire triumph on One Smart Girl. . . Javier Matiasalso rode two winners, one Quarter Horse and one Thoroughbred, and is now 7-for-13 on Quarter Horses. . .Jeff Metzhad one win Sunday and leads the Thoroughbred trainer standings with 46wins, while Frank Lucarelli also had a winSunday and is second with 27 wins.
