Sumner High gymnasts placed second and the Bonney Lake Panthers finished third during a four-team meet Dec. 9 in the Spartans’ gymnasium.
Sumner wound up with 131.2 points and Bonney Lake had 128.35, both trailing first-place Auburn High’s total of 145.85. Bringing up the rear was Rogers High with 99.05.
In all-around competition, Sumner’s Lizbet Fernandez placed third overall with a combined score of 30.3. She was first in the floor exercise with an 8.5, fourth in the vault, 8.1, fourth in the bars, 6.6, and sixth in the beam, 7.1.
Teammates Aja Ruswick and Marissa Gregg finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the all-around competition. Ruswick totaled 28.2 and had her best showing in the floor exercise, where she was fourth with a 7.9. Gregg finished with 27.75, including a third-place showing in the vault, where she scored 8.2.
The Panthers’ Kelsey Wells-Henderson competed in just two events, but grabbed first place in the vault with a score of 8.4 and took second in the bars with a 7.1.
Bonney Lake had four gymnasts in the all-around, topped by Sarah Skinner, who placed sixth with a total of 27.85. She received an 8.2, good for third overall, in the vault and also posted a 7.4 in the floor exercise, 6.15 in the beam and 6.1 in the bars.
Other Panther all-around competitors were Kaisee Spencer, eighth place, Amanda Hawkins, ninth and Lizandra Marengo, 10th. Spencer was second in the vault, scoring 8.3.
Action shifts to the Bonney Lake High gymnasium tonight, Wednesday, with Sumner and Auburn again participating. The fourth team will be Puyallup High. Competition gets under way at 7 p.m.
