With two title winners – Jacob Short and Chase Myers – and a handful of runners-up, No. 11-ranked White River High took a run at No. 2-ranked Enumclaw Saturday at the South Puget Sound League 3A subregional tournament at Auburn Mountainview High.

The Buckley Hornets finished second with 350.5 points, while the Enumclaw Hornets won it with 388.5. Auburn Mountainview, Bonney Lake and Peninsula rounded out the top five.

“We wrestled well and that’s good stuff,” coach Joe Klein said. “It was fun. We stepped up this weekend and did some good stuff. We had a great weekend. We get better every week. We were breathing down Enumclaw’s neck.

“This tournament is about the depth of the program, our junior varsity and our varsity,” Klein said. “Every team gets two entries at every weight class. I’m proud. I’m happy. I think everyone we brought scored points.

“Next weekend is about the quality of the guys we’re taking. We’d like to get everybody there (state).”
