Hornets remain perfect in league

The Hornets, a 17U team made of White River High players, is taking its Pierce County league by storm.

Through games of last week, the Hornets had built a 6-0 league record. The league games are part of a 30-game slate the team will play between July 1 and July 18.

The Hornets, guided by coach Mike Williams, are also playing a healthy sampling of nonleague games. Those included a Monday game at Franklin Pierce and a Tuesday doubleheader at home against an Elma, Wash., squad.

Recent victories came June 28 when The Hornets swept a doubleheader against East Valley-Yakima. The first game was a nail-biter, with the local team winning 9-8 with run in the bottom of the seventh inning; the nightcap featured an 8-3 Hornet win.

June 29, the Hornets traveled to Tacoma and defeated Axis, an Eatonville, Wash., team, 22-1.
