Chalk up two more wins for the Enumclaw High girls water polo team.

The Hornets, 9-2 overall, 5-2 in league, easily topped Puyallup 18-5 Friday in a nonleague contest and bested Sumner 17-9 Thursday in a league match-up.

The Hornets, sitting in second place in the Eastern Division of the South Sound Girls Water Polo League, were scheduled to travel to Auburn Tuesday and then host Rogers at 3:15 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center.

The Hornets used their meeting with the Spartans to get the younger players some valuable playing time – all 19 players saw action.

Scoring for the Hornets in Thursday’s win were Lindsay Bowden and Brooke Flaquinti with three goals each; Kaitlyn Korsch, Kelsey Sonneson, Erin Stucker, Tianna Hogan, and Kelsey Brazier with two goals apiece, and Alina Van Ruff with one. Starting goalkeeper Shaye Hogerhuis earned some rest while backup Rose Johnson played most of the second half in the goal.

Enumclaw gathered 21 steals for the game, led by Bowden with eight.

The Hornet offense was in high gear Friday, showing Puyallup an aggressive fast break offense, combined with an improved half-court game.

Puyallup looked strong early, taking a 3-1 lead four minutes into the first quarter, but the Hornets fought back, with Korsch scoring twice from the center and Bowden scoring from the point to give Enumclaw a 4-3 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Hornets took charge in the second period, scoring five goals, to take a 9-4 lead into the halftime break, and held the Vikings scoreless in the third quarter to seal the victory.

Scoring for the Hornets were Bowden with six goals; Korsch and Kelsey Brazier with three each; Breanna Flaquinti with two goals, and Liz Schmidt, Brooke Flaquinti, Stucker and Hogan with one goal each. Hogerhuis tallied 21 saves in goal.
