The Bonney Lake High girls had a split basketball week with a win at Franklin Pierce and a loss at home to White River.

The Panthers lost 63-51 to White River and beat the Cardinals 63-31 on Jan. 6.

The Panthers are in third place in the South Puget Sound League 3A with a 4-2 record, 7-2 overall as teams gear up for the second half of the season. Enumclaw (6-0) and White River (5-0) lead the league.

Against White River, the Panthers struggled with the Hornets’ pressure defense in the first quarter, falling behind 16-9. But the girls came out swinging in the second and scored 15 to the Hornets’ 16.

“We battled back after digging ourselves a hole,” coach Tom Ostrander said. “Their press got to us, but we came back and I was happy with the way the girls responded.”

The leading scorer for the game was Panther Marcel Pounds with 17. Point guard Rochelle Murray hit for 11.

Bonney Lake beat Franklin Pierce 63-31 on the road.

Leading the numbers for the Panthers was Pounds with 11 points.

The Panthers were scheduled to play a nonleague game Tuesday at Auburn. Scores were not available.

Bonney Lake hosts Sumner with the tipoff at 5:15 p.m. Friday and host Lakes at 7 p.m. Saturday.
