Sumner’s baseball team will need to build up its experience in the 2012 season: it graduated 11 seniors at the end of last year’s campaign.

Nevertheless, coach Casey Adcox has high hopes for the year.

“We have an abundance of young talent and good depth of competition at each position,” he said. “I see this team competing well, and improving throughout the campaign.”

To do so, he said he has plans to maximize each player’s athleticism in training.

The team has eight returning varsity athletes: Seniors Chayce Christensen, Korbin Moss, Tyler Holland and Brandon Boyd, juniors Cole Edwards and Carlos Duran, and Freshmen Gage Whitehead, Chase Torgison, and Jacob Richardson.

Additionally, nine new and upcoming varisity players will be gracing the diamond: Seniors Michael Greenwood, Chris Maez and Matt Campbell, sophomores Brandon Walsh, Bryan Adkins and Luc Powers-Hubbard, and freshmen Gage Whitehead, Chase Torgison, and Jacob Richarson.

The Courier-Herald will be watching the dugout closely this season, but if you need your Spartan stat quick fix, the team maintains a website at www.sumnerbaseball.com.
