White River High’s boys basketball team expended every ounce of energy toward upsetting its rival on Enumclaw’s home court Friday, but just couldn’t get it done before a noisy and lively partisan Enumclaw crowd, falling 64-55.
The White River High girls wrapped up a perfect South Puget Sound League 3A season with a Friday night victory over Enumclaw and now look forward to postseason play.
White River wrestling coach Joe Klein was beaming Saturday night. Not only did his boys team put five wrestlers into the state tournament, but so did the Hornets’ girls team. Plus, the Lady Hornets carried home a fourth-place finish from the regional tournament Saturday at Emerald Ridge, finishing one point behind Enumclaw with host Emerald Ridge and Rogers tying for the title.

The Sumner Spartans’ seniors made sure a disappointing basketball season ended on a high note. They scored 22 points in the final period for a 58-59 win over their district rivals, the Bonney Lake Panthers, in South Puget Sound League 3A play Feb. 13 at home.
In their final game of the season, the Sumner High girls fought for every rebound and loose ball against the playoff-bound Bonney Lake Panthers.
Jenny Paterson, Chantelle Bailey, Rose Johnson and Breanna Flaquinti are already making history as part of the first girls wrestling team to represent Enumclaw High at Mat Classic, the state wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday, but they’re not finished yet. The quartet hope to bring home some hardware for the trophy case as well.
The Enumclaw High girls completed the South Puget Sound League 3A portion of their schedule with an 11-5 record, good for third place and a Friday night date in the opening round of the subdistrict basketball tournament.
The wonderful element for the Enumclaw High boys basketball squad – fresh from its coronation as South Puget Sound League 3A basketball champion – is that Friday’s encounter with Renton High is for seeding purposes alone.
