Usually, when a high school boys basketball team starts out its campaign 0-5, it’s because the team is terrible. Such is not the case with the White River boys, though, who have had just about everything possible go wrong in the season’s early going.
More experience and a few more wins is what the six Enumclaw High girls wrestlers who attended Saturday’s round-robin tournament at Foss High earned.
The Sumner Spartan girls basketball team came out of a three-game week with one win in a nonleague event and two losses in South Puget Sound League 3A action.
White River High’s wrestling team is off to Clover Park tonight, Wednesday, for a South Puget Sound League 3A match and then to Yelm for the Tornado Tournament Saturday. They enter both contests riding a wave of confidence after winning two out of three at their own Hahto Dual Tournament Saturday.
Five Hornets in the championship round wasn’t enough for Enumclaw High to capture the Spud Valley Invitational wrestling tournament at Sedro Woolley Saturday. The Hornets finished second to Orting, 229-213. Enumclaw had edged the Cardinals the prior weekend in Buckley.
The Enumclaw High boy hoopsters have gotten their season to a great start, rolling over their first three opponents.
The Sumner Spartans gymnastics crew traveled to Emerald Ridge High for a three-team meet Dec. 10, placing behind Todd Beamer High and the host Jaguars.
The Enumclaw High girls started South Puget Sound League 3A play on a strong note, defeating Sumner Friday night after slipping past Bonney Lake Dec. 9.
The White River High girls quickly jumped to the top of the South Puget Sound League 3A standings, picking up weekend victories over Clover Park and Auburn Mountainview.
It was almost as if the youngsters were receiving a Christmas present early, when Sumner High’s wrestling squad hosted Bonney Lake Dec. 10 in the annual rivalry match, which came substantially earlier than usual.
The Enumclaw High boys swim team posted more district times on its way to a 98-81 nonleague loss to Capital Thursday and then finished fifth to bring home a trophy from the Rogers Holiday Relays in Puyallup Saturday.
