Bonney Lake High’s Taylor McCarthy got her first high school fastpitch start on the mound. The freshman tossed a two-hitter and struck out six Lancer batters as Bonney Lake pounded Lakes, 11-0, in five innings March 30 at Lakewood.

The game was called on the 10-run rule.

“Taylor was a little nervous at first, but she settled down after we scored some runs,” coach Dave Loveless said. “She did what we asked her to do.”

Loveless said it’s important to get his younger players experience to maintain a strong program.

Ashley Burns and Brittney Myers each had two hits and Alexis Miller added another for the Panthers, who finished with nine.

Bonney Lake scored five times in the second.

The Panthers were slated to host Franklin Pierce March 31, but the game was postponed because of rain. They will host Sumner Friday and Enumclaw Tuesday in South Puget Sound League 3A play. Game times are 4 p.m.
