Nick Hagadone’s baseball dreams came true Friday when he received the call. He was headed to the big leagues.

The one-time Sumner High pitching standout, who took his game to the University of Washington before being drafted into the professional ranks, joined the Cleveland Indians.

But the baseball gods were not smiling on the big left-hander. Due to injuries outside the pitching corps and Cleveland’s need to recall an outfielder, Hagadone was sent back to the Class AAA Columbus Clippers the following day. He was assigned No. 50, but did not appear in a game.

Hagadone’s statistics show he may soon be back in a major league uniform.  Working out of the bullpen, he has built a 6-4 record this season with an impressive 2.84 earned-run average. Appearing in 45 games, he struck out 76 batters while walking 22. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound prospect has been even better in his last 10 games, sporting a 2.40 ERA.

Hagadone, 25, has split the season between Class AA Akron and AAA Columbus, earning a promotion to the AAA club May 19.

Hagadone was drafted by the Boston Red Sox, but changed baseball addresses July 31, 2009, when he was part of a trade with Cleveland. He was the 55th overall selection between the first and second rounds of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Washington. He entered the 2011 season ranked as the 10th best prospect in the Indians system according to Baseball America.
