Hornets reschedule meet with Sumner for Jan. 6

The Enumclaw High boys swim team was able to get its South Puget Sound League 3A meet in Dec. 16 against Auburn Mountainview and the Hornets came away with a 107-63 victory.

The win gave the Hornets a 1-0 league record as they sit idle until Jan. 6 when they host Sumner. The Spartans and Hornets were scheduled to tangle Thursday, but school cancellations and poor weather prevented that from happening. The Jan. 6 meet is the rematch.

Against the Lions, Greg Rufener rushed to another state-qualifying mark in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.18 seconds. Earlier in the season, Rufener qualified for February’s state meet in the 50 freestyle.

EHS teammate Pierce Beigh finished second in the 100 freestyle.

The Hornets’ 200 medley relay team of Shane Jackson, Josh Petersen, Beigh and Rufener won, while Hornets Gabe Sales, Tanner Ross, Travis Culp and Cameron Nickson finished third.

Sam Horn took third in the 200 freestyle for Enumclaw.

Hornets Rufener, Petersen and Sales finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the 200 individual medley.

Beigh sprinted to a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle.

Jackson came in second in the 100 butterfly.

Sales won the 500 freestyle with fellow Hornet Tim Holston in second place.

EHS’s Rufener, Petersen, Jackson and Beigh raced to victory in the 200 freestyle relay.

Horn and Taylor Capellaro finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 backstroke.

In the 100 breaststroke, Jackson captured first place and Petersen was third.

Enumclaw swimmers claimed the first two spots in the 400 freestyle relay with Sales, Culp, Holston and Garrett Cyr taking first and Johnathan Stapf, Jeremy McCarthy, Capellaro and Horn sprinting to second.
