Salsbury No. 3 seed at PNGA boys amateur championship

The 57th Pacific Northwest Golf Association Junior Boys Amateur Championship play continues today, Aug. 17, at Sunriver Resort – Meadows in Sunriver, Ore.

After 36-holes, Kelly Campbell of Auburn was the leader, followed by Kevin Murphy of Rouge River, Ore., and Enumclaw’s Tyler Salsbury.

Salsbury, an Enumclaw High senior, enters as the No. 3 seed. He shot an even-par 70 in the first round and was 1-over for the following round to trail the leader by by four strokes.

Lake Tapps’ Nolan Cull finished at 78-73 for 151.

Match play started this morning. The low 32 players in the championship field of 144 were seeded in the Championship Flight while the rest of the field was seeded into 13 flights of eight based on qualifying score.

The championship bracket will be completed over the next three days, with two rounds of 18-hole matches taking place on Wednesday and Thursday and a 36-hole final on Friday.

The Championship format calls for 36-holes of stroke play qualifying followed by single-elimination match play with a Championship Flight of 32 players and additional flights of eight players.

To be eligible for the Pacific Northwest Junior Boys’ Amateur Championship, contestants must not have reached their 18th birthday by the final day of the competition. The championship consists of 36 holes of stroke play qualifying to determine flights for the match play portion of the championship. The lowest 32 scorers from the qualifying round will advance to the Championship Flight, with each of the remaining flights being comprised of eight contestants. All matches are contested over 18 holes in a single elimination format.
