Shirey sets pole vault record as White River boys defeat Sumner Spartans

The meet was staged at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

White River’s boys emerged with a 101-40 win while the girls lost 86-64.

The Hornet boys were led by three-time winner Anthony Dove. The senior was first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.67 seconds, tops in the 200 meters with a time of 22.80 and then captured the 400 in 53.93.

Winning two events each were Marcus Dickson and Devin Liebel. Dickson took the 800-meter run in 2:03.94 and won the 1,600 in 4:45.86. Liebel won both hurdle races, taking the 110 meters in 16.57 and the 300 meters in 43.81.

Other individual winners for the Hornet boys were Kody Gould, who was first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:21.28; Blake Maresh, shot put, 47 feet, 5.25 inches; and Austin Shirey, who established a school record in the pole vault by clearing 13-9.

The Hornet boys also won both hurdle races.

For the  Hornet girls, Alysa Aashiem was a winning machine, taking top honors in four events. She won the 100 meters in 13.20, took the 200 in 28.27, won the 300-meter hurdles in 50.94 and unleashed a winning throw of 87-07 in the javelin.

Lauryn Wate was a double winner, taking the 800-meter title in 2:29.01 and the 1,600 meters in 5:38.17.

Jade Crawford also captured a pair of events, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 16.88 and clearing 4-6 to win the high jump.

A small handful of Hornets scattered Saturday for invitational meets. Dickson had the top performance on the day, winning the 800 meters at the Shoreline Invitational.
