SHS BASEBALL: Spartans establish a 2-0 perfect record after game with Franklin Pierce

One day after returning from a team-building retreat, the Sumner High baseball team hosted a tough Franklin Pierce squad and caged the struggling Redbirds 7-1.

The March 28 win elevated Sumner’s South Puget Sound League 2A mark to 2-0.

The Cardinals shot themselves in the foot defensively as they committed eight errors, enhancing Sumner’s anemic offensive production of five hits.

Sumner’s starting pitcher, Cameron Steffey, had a solid game as he toiled through five innings, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out six. He enjoyed an even better afternoon at the plate with two  hits and three runs batted in.
