Lakes High scored five touchdowns, including an interception that was returned 102 yards for a score, as the Lancers blanked Sumner 49-0 Friday in South Puget Sound League 3A action at Sunset Chev Stadium.

The Lancers, ranked in the top two in all statewide Class 3A polls, scored with 8:41 left in the first quarter, then added another score for a 14-0 lead.

Deep in their own territory, Sumner punter Zach Bowers got a high snap from center, then scooped up the ball and stepped out of the end zone for a safety.

Lakes scored early in the second and with 2:34 left in the half for a 29-0 margin.

Sumner then took the kickoff and drove to the Lakes’ 2-yard line. Quarterback Aaron Clark’s pass intended for Brendon Baker on second-and-goal was intercepted in the end zone and John Goldwire raced untouched 102 yards as time expired in the half.

Lakes scored a touchdown in each of the final two quarters.

The 0-5 Spartans will host the Mount Tahoma Thunderbirds of the Class 4A Narrows League at 7 p.m. Thursday.
