The Sumner High girls soccer squad has flourished with the drop from the Class 3A ranks to the South Puget Sound League 2A.

In last week’s tandem of 2A tilts, the Spartans tallied 16 goals combined against Clover Park and Washington.

Sumner High hosted the woeful Warriors Sept. 21, bludgeoning Clover Park 11-0.

Sophomore striker Brenna Allsop recorded a hat trick to highlight the easy win. In minute 35 she took an assist from Sarah Carter and fired in a rocket and one minute later Allsop was assisted by freshman midfielder Ellie Degoede. At the 40-minute mark there was the brief intermission mercifully mandated by the WIAA. When the clock re-employed to usher in the encounter’s second stanza, Allsop picked up where she left off, giving her three goals in a 20-minute span.

The Spartans’ recorded their fourth shutout of the season Thursday, this time a 5-0 whitewashing of Washington, again in the friendly confines of Sunset Chev Stadium.

Sophomore forward Kaylie Rozell scored a pair of unassisted goals and Sumner scored another to make it 3-0 at intermission. Spartan midfielder Megan Fenton scored off an assist by Degoede in the second half, then assisted on a goal by Megan Bodus.
