Sumner High’s 13-1 girls soccer squad, fresh off claiming the South Puget Sound League 2A title, defeated Port Angeles in a 1-0, double overtime shoot Saturday.
The victory at Franklin Pierce High gave the Spartans the district’s No. 1 seed into the 16-team state tournament.
Sumner High hosted its first-round state game Tuesday night at Sunset Chev Stadium, taking on Lindbergh High, the No. 1 club from the Seamount League; results will be posted at www.courierherald.com.
If Sumner was victorious Tuesday, the Spartans will next play Saturday, again at Sunset Chev Stadium. The opponent will be the winner of a first-round tilt between Hockinsona and Sehome.
