SHS SWIM AND DIVE: Lady Spartans sprint to district times in relays and individual events

The Sumner High 200-yard medley relay dashed to a district-qualifying time Thursday and its swim meet with Capital was close before succumbing to the Cougars 99-71.

The four weren’t the only Spartans to post a district-qualifying time several made the cut.

Taylor Ditty, Ashley Huynh, Emma Thompson and Sami Hendricks raced to a 2-minute, 03.73 second in the medley relay for their spot at the district meet in October. Placing third in a 2:20.33 was the relay team of Jaime Morey, Katie Ekse, Lizzie Kressler and Kallan Gustafson.

The 200 freestyle relay of Ditty, Thompson, Kressler and Hendricks placed second with a district-qualifying time of 1:49.76.

Hendricks outtouched Ditty for a one-two finish in the 50 freestyle. Hendricks 26.23 time was a district-qualifying time, as was Ditty’s 26.28. Spartan Kaylee Cline came in sixth with a time of 34.13.

In the 100 butterfly, Thompson was first with a district time of 1:08.76; Kressler third in a 1:14.87.

Thompson and Kallan Gustafson made district times in the 200 freestyle with times of 2:14.12 and 2:17.08, respectfully.

Hendricks’ first-place 100 freestyle time of 57.74 was also a district-qualifer. Teammate Huynh was fourth in a 1:05.78 and Ali Bryant was sixth in 1:23.51.

Gustafson finished second in the 500 freestyle. Her time of 6:13.48 lands her a spot at the district meet. Madison Dreiger was fifth for the Spartans in a 8:26.55, outtouching teammate Cline’s 8:26.99 finish.

Sumner’s 200 freestyle relay of Bryant, Kendra Creech, McKenna Roberts and Darby Kenyon placed fourth in a time of 2:34.77.

Ditty missed a state-qualifying time in the 100 backstroke by a little more than a second. Her time was 1:05.21. Jaime Morey was fifth with a 1:29.19 and Dani Nasawang was sixth with a 1:51.90.

The 100 breaststroke was close, as Capital’s swimmer nipped SHS’s Huynh in 1:21.77. Ekse was third in a 1:29.38.

The 400 freestyle relay of Morey, Gustafson, Ekse and Huynh placed third in a time of 4:43.01.

There was no diving.

The Spartans’ hosted Clover Park Tuesday and North Thurston at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
