SHS/BLHS GYMNASTICS: Spartans, Panthers compete in Federal Way

Wednesday’s gymnastics meet in Federal Way wasn’t particularly kind to the girls from Sumner and Bonney Lake high schools, who finished third and fourth, respectively, in a four-team meet.

Emerald Ridge topped the field with 169.5 team points, followed by host Todd Beamer High with 167.55. The Spartans were third with 146.75 points and Bonney Lake trailed with 127.9.

Just one of the local gymnasts made her way into the all-around standings. Sumner’s Kiley McCain totaled 31.9 points to place eighth.

In individual events, McCain was fifth on the beam with a score of 8.85 and eighth on the bars with a 7.05. Other placers for Sumner were Sierra Tinsley, seventh on the beam with a score of 8.65, and Kimi Nakayama, seventh in the floor exercise with a score of 9.0.There were no event placers for Bonney Lake High.

Gymnasts from the two schools compete again tonight, Wednesday. Sumner will host and others attending will be Bonney Lake, Puyallup High and Decatur. Action gets under way at 7 p.m.
