Six Plateau area gymnasts crack Top 10

Sumner finishes second behind Enumclaw

Six local gymnasts cracked the all-around Top 10 Thursday as Sumner and Bonney Lake high schools competed in a four-way meet in the Spartans’ gymnasium.

The host SHS crew finished second in team scoring with 149.85 points, trailing the tough and deep Enumclaw Hornets, who totaled 166.60. Bonney Lake wound up third with 142.55 points and the Tahoma Bears trailed the pack with 127.20.

Sumner’s Kimi Nakayama was third in all-around scoring and was second in the floor exercise with a mark of 9.0; she also was fourth in both the beam and bars and finished tied for sixth in the vault.

The Spartans’ Aja Ruswick won the beam event with a 9.3 score and placed fifth in the all-around, also placing third in the floor exercise and seventh in the bars.

Sumner’s Sierra Tinsley was sixth all-around, tying for second on the beam, tying for eighth in the bars, placing ninth in the floor exercise and 10th in the vault.

Bonney Lake gymnasts in the Top 10 all-around were Mallory Zimbelman, seventh, and Kelsey Wells-Henderson, ninth. Zimbelman was sixth in the bars with a score of 6.3 and placed eighth in both the beam and floor exercise. Wells-Henderson’s best finish was a fourth-place tie in the vault with an 8.35 and she tied for sixth in the floor exercise and eighth in the bars.

Sumner’s Dayna Devereaux was 10th all-around with fifth-place finishes in both the bars and floor exercise and an eighth-place tie in the vault.
