Vacation doesn’t mean sit back and relax for the Enumclaw High wrestling squad.

On their home mat, the Hornets ran away with two wins Thursday during double-dual action with Kentwood and Kentridge. Sumner also participated in the mini-tournament.

“It’s a great opportunity fo rus to compete just before vacation,” coach Lee Reichert said. “Kentwood is always a good, quality program and Kentridge is up-and-coming.”

The Hornets racked up four pins – Lucas Somera, Hunter File, Ryan Anderson and Colton Malek – in a 54-4 opening win over Kentridge.

Anderson’s pin at 152 pounds was a highlight, as was T.J. Cormier’s late match victory, Reichert said.

With five pins, the Hornets cruised past Kentwood in the night’s second match.

The evening’s highlight came at 112 pounds when February state finalist Ruben Navejas squared off against fifth-place state finisher Tyke Reid. Kentwood’s Navejas, who is also strong at the national level, squeaked out a 1-point win.

“He’s a sharp, tight kid and we took him right to the wall,” Reichert said. “Even though we lost it we got a lot out of it.”

At 125 pounds, Travis Reano’s overtime victory also stood out.
