SLIDESHOW: Enumclaw tennis maintains lead

The Enumclaw High girls tennis team topped White River 3-2 in league action April 13, then scored another 3-2 league win over Bonney Lake April 14 and its third South Puget Sound League 3A win of the week 5-0 Thursday over Auburn Mountainview to keep its record clean.

White River singles Morgan Wilson and Rachel Hoflack picked up wins in singles play. After a 6-2 setback, Wilson topped Rachel Holly 6-4, 6-2, while Hoflack won over Alex Putman, 7-5, 6-4.

Enumclaw dominated the doubles’ courts. EHS’s Anna Nelson and Lauren Redman beat Haley Havelock and Courtney Hall 6-1, 7-5. Breanna Pierce and Julie Sanders won over Kelli Hoffman and Heidi Lyons, 6-2, 6-2, while Gina Sanders and Bedda Johnson paired up for a 6-0, 6-0 victory over White River’s Katie Durrant and Taylor Wombacher.

In EHS’s makeup contest with Bonney Lake, it was a battle.

Putman captured a singles win for EHS 6-2, 6-0, while doubles Pierce and Julie Sanders and Gina Sanders and Johnson won their matches too, but it was the No. 1 doubles match that thrilled fans as Redman and Nelson squared off against top players Alise and Emily McCoy. The McCoy sisters won 6-4, 6-4.

The Hornets cruised past Auburn Mountainview Thursday 5-0.

After dropping a 6-2 set, Holley was an easy winner 6-3 6-3. Putman won 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, Nelson and Redman rallied from a 6-2 loss to win 6-4, 6-4. Julie Sanders and Pierce also came back after a 6-2 loss. They won the next two 6-1, 6-3, while Gina Sanders and Johnson went the distance, but won 7-6(2), 7-6(3).
