Spartan roundballers defeat FP

The Sumner High boys basketball squad remained an undefeated 2-0 in league play by dominating Franklin Pierce at the Cardinal Cage last night by the score of 52-39.

The purple and gold’s winning effort, which gave Sumner a 3-1 accounting overall on the young season thus far, displayed the great balance which the predominantly senior crew is becoming known for and featured the combined scoring of the Spartan twins Dan and Dave DeVries who between them put up nearly half of Sumner’s points.

The adept Spartan cagers really came on in the second half, especially flexing their defensive muscle in the third stanza of the encounter, when they not only reaped a bountiful harvest offensively, but additionally held the Redbirds at bay by putting the clamps on them, outscoring Franklin Pierce 20-0 in that third quarter.

Sumner’s cagers have a full dance card next week on their home hardwood as they roll out the red carpet for Fife, Washington and Bonney Lake on the 13, 16 and 17 of December respectively. All of those contests feature a 5:15 p.m. tip-off time.
