Spartans’ bats come alive against White River

Colvin struck out 19 batters in the no-hitter.

Sumner’s Katie Littlefield gave up five hits in the loss.

Sumner collected 14 hits in a 6-2 win over White River April 8 in league play at home.

Mandy Humphries and Rory Zambard led the Spartans with three hits each. Humphries scored two runs and Zambard had a pair of doubles and drove in two. Sadie Baines and Krista Beers had two hits each.

The Spartans scored once in the first and second inning, then added two runs in the fifth and sixth.

Littlefield tossed a four-hitter while fanning five batters. She walked nine.

White River scored twice in the seventh.

Franklin Pierce held Sumner to one hit in a 5-0 SPSL 3A shutout over the Spartans April 7 in Parkland.

The Cardinals scored five runs off Littlefield, who spent five innings on the mound before Megan Anderson took over in relief.

The Spartans play at Enumclaw today, Wednesday, then host Peninsula Friday in league action. Sumner plays at Clover Park Tuesday.
