Spartans, Panthers fall on first volleyball games

The Sumner Spartans volleyball team hosted its first game of the season Thursday. The Spartans fell short and lost 3-2 to the visiting White River Hornets. Sumner won the first two games 25-22 and 25-17 but couldn’t hang onto the lead.

The Sumner Spartans volleyball team hosted its first game of the season Thursday.

The Spartans fell short and lost 3-2 to the visiting White River Hornets.

Sumner won the first two games 25-22 and 25-17 but couldn’t hang onto the lead.

White River won the third game 25-21.

And the Hornets tied the match at two games all with a 25-16 score in the fourth.

White River hung on and won the final game 15-13.

Sumner’s Heather Thompson led the team with 13 kills.

Kelsey Williams for White River had a total of 11 kills during the Hornets’ win.

The Spartans are 0-1 on the season and hosted the Auburn Trojans Tuesday past the press deadline.

The next game on the schedule for Sumner is a home match at 7:15 p.m. Thursday against Auburn Mountainview.

White River traveled to River Ridge Tuesday and are set to travel to Washington for a 7:15 p.m. match Thursday.

Bonney Lake

The Panthers traveled to South Kitsap for the first match of the season on Sept. 8.

Bonney Lake fell short, losing 3-2.

The Panthers traveled to Auburn to face the Mountainview Lions Tuesday.

Bonney Lake returns home for its first home match of the season against Lakes.

The match is set with a 7:15 p.m. start Thursday.
