Padgett earns

all-American

White River High graduate Brad Padgett finished third at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Houston Saturday.

The St. Cloud State University senior was one of three Huskies to earn all-American status. It was his second-straight all-American title for St. Cloud, but the fourth of his collegiate wrestling career. Padgett transfered to St. Cloud from Highline Community College.

The 184-pound Padgett opened the tournament with a 4-1 decision over Hiram Smith from Findlay. He then topped Larry Wilbanks of Western State 11-1. In the semifinal match, against Brent Pankoke of Nebraska Omaha, Padgett lost 4-0. He rallied to win his next two, beating Smith again by pinning him in 1 minute, 58 seconds and then earning a 16-3 victory over Bryant Blanton of Newberry for third place.

Ladies Golf Club welcomes players

The Enumclaw Ladies Golf Club will begin the 2009 season on April 7. All ladies interested in playing golf are invited to play nine holes with our members at either 9 a.m. or 3 p.m. Please arrive at least a half hour early. Green fees are $16 and for seniors (age 63 and older) $13. A potluck luncheon follows morning play. Non-members may play with the club three times without joining (dues are $55 per year) and are invited to attend the spring meeting which takes place immediately after the potluck. Wolverine football registeration begins

Wolverine Junior Football and Cheer registration continues Saturday. There are no tryouts and all are welcome. Uniforms are provided by the franchise. Registration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at KeyBank in Enumclaw. Football players from 7 to 14 years of age will be divided by age and weight. Schwartz finishes tops in two events

Seattle Pacific University senior Brianna Schwartz achieved a sixth-place all-around score of 37.975 during the Falcons’ final regular-season outing, a four-team women’s gymnastics meet won by host Sacramento State in California.

Schwartz, a Bonney Lake resident who graduted from Sumner High, was the Falcons’ top finisher in two events. She posted a ninth-place uneven bars mark of 9.650 and tied for ninth with teammate Lari Wilson with scores of 9.625 on the vault.

The Seattle Pacific gymnasts travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., next week for the four-team Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at the Air Force Academy. The Falcons of SPU and Air Force will be joined at West Cadet Gym by defending conference champion UC Davis and Alaska Anchorage.

Hansen skis to fifth place at Crystal

The Plateau’s Bill Hansen, skiing his home course of Crystal Mountain, finished fifth during the 2009 Silver King Freeride competition March 5-8.

William Soltau of Jackson Hole, Wyo., won the International Free Skiing Association (IFSA) competition, finishing with a two-run total of 75.67. Out of 33 competitors, Hansen, the top local finisher, earned his spot on the podium with a 66.75 for his two runs.

Nancy Elrod of Squaw Valley, Calif., won the women’s competition.

Lloyd Dahlem, Shane Schorzman and Patrick Fesler are expected to represent the area when Crystal Mountain hosts the finals of the IFSA North American Junior Freeskiing Tour April 1-5. The junior competition is expected to be bigger since it recently changed to a full championship event featuring a qualifier competition, main event invitational and a weather day.

Sumner Meadows hosts seminar

A free seminar for women golfers is planned for 1 p.m. March 29 at the Sumner Meadows Golf Links, 14802 Golf Links Dr.

The seminar will include tips from professional female golfers and a golf lesson. All attendees receive a free golf club.

Kahne hosts raffle for custom chopper

The Kasey Kahne Foundation and the Sonoma (Calif.) Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities will join forces on a fundraiser that will see one lucky race fan win a custom-built chopper at this year’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Infineon Raceway, June 19-21.

The “Kasey Kahne Custom Chopper Raffle” kicked off Feb. 27, during a press conference at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, featuring Kahne and Steve Page, president and general manager of Infineon Raceway.

The racy red-and-white chopper was built for Kahne by the famous Orange County Choppers.

“I am excited to team up with Infineon Raceway to raffle off this cool chopper to raise money for the Kasey Kahne Foundation and Speedway Children’s Charities,” Kahne said. “Sunoco had this bike built by the guys at Orange County Choppers and it turned out great. The lucky fan who wins the bike is going to be cruising around on one of the best-looking choppers around.”

Race fans can purchase raffle tickets for $9 each, the number on Kahne’s Budweiser Dodge, by calling 800-870-RACE. Kahne will pull the winning raffle ticket in the Wine Country Winner’s Circle at Infineon Raceway June 21.

Proceeds from the raffle benefit the Kasey Kahne Foundation, while Speedway Children’s Charities proceeds will be distributed to qualified youth groups in Sonoma County.
