Three from area named to all-state

Three area players were selected to play in the Class 3A/4A Washington State Football Coaches Association East-West All-State game.

Selected to the East squad were lineman Bobby Nix of Bonney Lake, linebacker Conner Elder of Enumclaw and lineman Grant Cisneros of Sumner.

Coaching the East squad is Greg Kittrell of Moses Lake.

The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. June 27 at Memorial Stadium in Everett.

Kahne finds short track frustrating

“It was just a frustrating day for the Budweiser Dodge team today,” Enumclaw NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kasey Kahne said after Sunday’s 19th-place finish at Martinsville Speedway. “We just fought tight all day. I never could get it to turn. We did our best and got the best finish we could with what we had.”

Kahne started sixth, based on Sprint Cup drivers’ standings after qualifying was rained out Friday, but quickly fell to the middle of the field and stayed there all day.

Jimmie Johnson picked up the win.

Kahne fell three spots to ninth in drivers’ point standings, 214 points behind leader Jeff Gordon.

Racing continues Sunday from Texas Motorspeedway. Television coverage begins at 10:30 a.m. on FOX.
