Sumner High girls tennis coach Chris Heacox will be trying to replace four seniors who graduated from last season’s team, including two who played almost every match at singles.
He won’t have to look far with the Spartans’ No. 1 doubles team of senior Taylor Henken and junior Kyla Anderson returning.
“They had a lot of success in the 3A league and are most likely going to be together again this year,” Heacox noted.
Despite the wet weather which has forced the team into the gymnasium, 35 girls are turning out, giving Heacox plenty of choices to fill those other spots, although he is expecting the lineup to be dominated by seniors.
With the move from the South Puget Sound League 3A to 2A, the Spartans will face four different opponents this season. Play is scheduled to begin with one of those unfamiliar teams, Fife, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at home.
