Square Dancer held off Deputy’s Command to win a driving finish Monday in the $18,800 Budweiser Purse on Memorial Day at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Jake Barton, Square Dancer prevailed by a head and paid $8.60, $4.40 and $3. The winner, trained by Mike Chambers for owners John Xitco, Dan Agnew and James Glavin, ran one mile in a meet-best 1:37.10.

For Chambers, the leading percentage trainer in track history, it was his first victory at Emerald Downs since September 16, 2011. His career mark here is 104-for-365 for a win percentage of 28.4.

Deputy’s Command, rallying in tandem with the winner, finished a clear second and paid $8.20 and $4.20. Rocco Bowen rode the runner-up. Taelyns Prince, ridden by Leslie Mawing, finished third and paid $4.20.

The top three finishers continued a trend of Arizona shippers faring well at Emerald Downs. Square Dancer, Deputy’s Command and Taelyns Prince all raced most recently at Turf Paradise.

Rocky’s Quest, the 9-to-5 betting favorite, led through six furlongs in 112.98, but weakened in the final furlong and finished fourth. Sportive,

Pacific Nights and Hello Brown completed the order of finish.

A 5-year-old Florida-bred by Circular Quay, is 6-5-3 in 22 starts lifetime with earnings of $123,210. The gelding is 3-1-0 in five starts on dirt, and 3-2-0 in five starts at one mile.

Barton, fifth in the jockeys’ standings with 11 wins, has 2,568 career victories and is 76-for-271 riding for Chambers.

NOTES: Trainer Alan Bozell enjoyed a big day with wins by Miners Night ($11.60) and Foolish Miss ($9.20), and a third by first-time starter Top Kitty Kat. Bozell is 7-for-17 at the meet with an average $2 win price of $18.40. . .National Wonder pulled off a $40 upset under Jose Zunino in race four to give owner/trainer David Ratko his first win of 2015. Kudos to Nick Rousso of Daily Racing Form for pegging the 19-to-1 shot on top. . .Zunino was the only rider with two wins Monday. . .Julien Couton, Leslie Mawing and Juan Gutierrez—the meet’s three leading riders—each had a winner Monday. With six weeks in the books, Couton leads with 22 wins, followed by Mawing with 19 and Gutierrez with 18. . .G.G. Ryder ($7.80) captured the $100,000 All American Stakes (G3) for 3-year-olds and up, winning by 1 ¼ lengths over stablemate Outside Nashville in 1:36.14 for one mile on Tapeta. . .Live racing resumes Friday at 6:45 p.m.
