Sumner tennis: Nakladal misses medal by margin

Sumner High’s Dalibor Nakladal missed a chance to play for a medal after falling to Hanford’s Luke Thompson 6-3, 6-3 in the consolation semifinals Saturday at the Class 3A boys tennis singles championships in Vancouver, Wash.

Sumner High’s Dalibor Nakladal missed a chance to play for a medal after falling to Hanford’s Luke Thompson 6-3, 6-3 in the consolation semifinals Saturday at the Class 3A boys tennis singles championships in Vancouver, Wash.

Nakladal, an exchange student from Serbia, opened tournament play Friday with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 win over Mercer Island’s Jordan Smith.

Next for Nakladal was North Thurston’s David Schuster, who he lost to in the district tournament a week earlier. Nakladal fell to Schuster 6-4,7-6.

His first opponent in consolation was Shuhe Matsuya, who he easily defeated, 6-0, 6-4.
