SWIM AND DIVE: Plateau swimmers dive into districts

Bonney Lake, Enumclaw and Sumner swimmers and divers head to Renton’s Hazen High Friday and Saturday for the West Central District III championships.

Bonney Lake, Enumclaw and Sumner swimmers and divers head to Renton’s Hazen High Friday and Saturday for the West Central District III championships. The SPSL and Western Cascade Conference teams will be joined by teams from the Olympic and Seamount leagues. Diving preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. Friday with swimming at 5 p.m. Swim finals begin at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The top six place winners advance to state.

Sumner

Several Sumner High swimmers have already posted state times and will automatically advance to the Class 3A state swim and dive championships Nov. 13 and 14 at the King County Aquatic Center, like the Spartans’ 200-yard medley relay team of Taylor Ditty, Emma Thompson, Ashley Huynh and Sami Hendricks, which won the subdistrict event and posted a state time of 1 minute, 56.06 seconds. The same Spartan foursome won the subdistrict 200 freestyle relay with a state time of 1:45.12.

Both those relay times were school records. The 200-yard medley relay team bested the 2005 time of 1:59.50 and the 200 freestyle relay topped the 1:46.12 from 2004. Both

Ditty, who broke a 19-year-old school record in the 100 backstroke, has posted a state time. She will compete in the backstroke, as well as the 100 freestyle and two relays at the district meet.

Hendricks will compete in the 50 and 100 freestyle and the two relays at state. In addition to the two relays, Huynh will compete in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

Thompson will join the two relays and also race in the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly.

Lizzie Kressler, Kallan Gustafson, Katie Ekse and Jamie Morey will swim in the 400 freestyle relay at district.

Kressler will also compete in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Gustafson will swim the 200 and 500 freestyle.

The team will also bring McKenna Roberts, Stephanie Hamre, Keri Hegel and Ali Bryant as alternates.

Enumclaw

Enumclaw will send its 200 medley relay team of Lindsay Bowden, Bella Davenport, Erin Stucker and Erin Wessel that finished fourth at subdistricts with a time of 2:04.64 to the district meet.

The Hornets will also send Lindsay Bowden in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke.

Davenport will compete in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.

Rachel Holston finished seventh in the 200 freestyle with a district time of 2:16.08

Erica Bonthuis finished third in diving with 263.30 points.

EHS’s 200 freestyle team of Wessel, Bowden, Holston and Stucker raced to fifth-place in a district time of 1:55.24. Enumclaw’s second team of Davenport, Carly Hinman, Jamie Ritzdorf and Ali Ballard also set a district pace at 1:55.74.

Bonney Lake

Elise Duncan finished fifth in the 50 freestyle, just missing a district time, however, she qualified for district’s in the season’s final regular meet with a 27.48 time.

Kelsi Potterf, last year’s No. 6 diver in the state, has qualified for state again.
